    Ingredients

    2 cups all-purpose flour

    1 Tablespoon baking powder

    3/4 teaspoon salt

    1/3 cup vegetable shortening

    For Bisquick variation, see notes

    2 Tablespoons unsalted butter

    3/4 cup buttermilk

    3/4 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

    1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

    1/2 teaspoon dried parsley

    Extra melted butter, garlic powder, salt, and parsley for topping.

    Instructions

    Preheat oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
    Pulse flour, baking powder, salt, and vegetable shortening in a food processor until the consistency of cornmeal. (You're essentially making homemade bisquick.)
    Pulse in butter until butter is pea-sized. (Do not overpulse.) Dump mixture into medium-sized mixing bowl.
    Use a fork to stir in cheddar cheese, garl
